I'm in NYC on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. As I drove down, listening to people debate with the 9/11 "deniers"...ugh.

Last night I walked from 51st Street to the WTC site to see the Memorial and got there at 9:00PM, very quiet and solemn at that time. I was shocked at how under construction it still was, I thought it was mostly finished.?

It opens to the public today so hopefully I can get there to see things closer...

I generally try not to put wedding pictures on this blog, trying to keep the two separate, but I really liked these detail shots from a Russian wedding I did last Sunday. It was at Cafe St. Petersburg in Newton. The food looked and tasted great and the art on the walls was very eclectic, interesting, and sometimes weird!

I'm starting work on a video for an after school program in NH. I've been shooting some stills as well, and got these girls doing "chocolate facials". Quite the hoot and a bit hard to believe girls this age are really concerned about their skin. I think they had alot of fun though....

Did these shots today for an artist submitting these quilts to a competition. What I love about being a photographer is being exposed to new things. While photographing these, I was made to look more closely than I ever would have otherwise. I probably couldn't sew a patch on my jeans to save my life, but these are so layered and complex, I can't imagine the work that goes into them. What I especially like about these two quilts (each quilt is shot in full and a close-up "detail" shot) is the fact that they are so different from each other. My favorite is the called "Green Flash", being both abstract and about nature. The other one is so cool in its' "retro" style.

I was at Fanueil hall yesterday to shoot the grand opening of the new rink there for Panorama magazine. A bit cold, but there was a champion figure skater, the Bruins' "Ice Girls" and Bruins mascot "Blades". The media as well, channel 5, Fox 25, photographers from the papers, as well as a DJ from 104.1. Bit of a circus, but alot of fun for a cold Saturday morning.

It's very important to get to see other artists work, in whatever medium you use and in other forms as well, you never know where you might get an idea (or a job!). What I really like about Blue Skies Studios is the fact that our floor plan is completely open and you can't help to see what the other artists are working on. The mix is quite cool too, fabric art, painting in various mediums, glass, mosiac, fashion, I think that's most of it...
Also the exchange of ideas and opportunities is great.

Well I arrived in FL safe and sound last Tuesday. Got to see some relatives and the folks for a couple of days before getting on the plane back. Drove on the beach, had a burger, and saw a monument to surfing at New Symerna Beach. As I was leaving, the Florida temps were going back up to the 70s while Boston was dipping into the 20s. Sigh.....

Well of course as I was heading down, the South had their earliest cold snap in recent memory...top temps were in the 40s...I decided to check out Savannah on the way (liked the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"). Did the tourist bus tour and walked along the river. Had shrimp and grits and beer. Beautiful city, great architecture, hope to come back when it's warm sometime....

Participated in the "Downtown Stroll" in Hudson with some fellow Blue Skies people last Saturday. The Parish Jazz Band showed up to play some Xmas and jazz standards for the hardy soles who came out. The space was great, right in the center, with room for a backdrop in the back room so I got to do some portraits as well. Good time....

Had a fun gig last week doing portraits at the Karate Dojo that my son attends. I came up with three different backgrounds to offer. "Fireworks" was the most popular, but the other two got picked a fair amount too.... What was also fun was that the owner, Pat, was there with her little granddaughter while I was setting up, so I got some pretty cute pictures of the two of them while testing my lights (see above)! You never know where you'll get some great pics sometimes....

Usually don't show formal wedding pictures on this blog or on the website. Mainly because they aren't the most unique or "different" images from a wedding, they're mostly special for the family and loved friends of the couple. I tried something a bit different this past season with setting up a camera off to the side and having it go off at regular intervals and making a stop action "film" with it. With Jennifer and Will's wedding, I combined the formals with the action and included it in their slideshow. I think the finished result is alot of fun.See what you think.... yeah, that's me, the guy with the camera...

Photographed Taylor and Ariel's wedding last Saturday. The ceremony was in the church in Lincoln Center, which was very cool because my mother was the organist there for many years (just recently retired). It's a small but beautiful New England church. Reception at the John Pierce house which is gorgeous as well. It was pretty windy, Taylor had a hard time keeping the veil on!

Well the wedding season is slowly winding down....when you get to October alot of times you're fighting the fading light for the formal and bridal couple pictures...At Jen's wedding at Lake Pearl on the 2nd, it was getting dark fast by the end of the ceremony!...We rushed down by the lake and still managed to get some nice shots with the sun fading behind them...very close.

Dropping off a disk today for some pro bono work I did for the Restoration Project in West Concord. Their website- www.restorationproject.org states their mission as-

Last Saturday I shot my first Russian wedding with the service and reception at the Sharon Community Center, a pretty spot overlooking a lake. The service was short and sweet, with something involving their mothers giving them bread to eat together right after...The vodka flowed freely. Another tradition is that the bride is "kidnapped" and the groom must "earn" her release! The groom earned it by doing a dance with some flowers to the tune of "I'm too sexy"....?!
The next day, I was back at the Orleans Inn where I did "ghost" pictures of the bride and groom. Stay tuned for that.....

Hit the Lowell Folk Festival on Sunday. Always try to get there for some of it, usually shooting a wedding nowadays, so not as easy as it useed to be. Caught some irish reels, jazz piano, and some cool DC funk dance. Gotta love the mix of stuff. Ran into a fellow CDIA alum, Kim, which was cool. Did a bit of photo "competition". Haven't seen your stuff yet Kim...?

I shot heavy on the dance so I'm working on a stop action video with it, hope to put that up shortly......yeah, that's me with the guitar neck thru my head.!

Beautiful wedding last Saturday in Quincy. A trolley made for a great backdrop for Christie and Shawn's bridal party pics. The church wasn't too dark, so I was able to get some "candid action shots" during the service without having to "blast the flash". I love being able to photograph the service without being part of it myself....

Yesterday I was at Vapiano in Boston's Theater District for a cover shoot for Panorama's Magazine's Outside Dining Issue. Very cool place, lounge chairs outside, beer on tap, and the food is cooked to order while you watch....yeah, I got to try some of the "talent", good stuff!

Last Tuesday I was covering the Douglas Dublar talk at BU's Center for Digital imaging Arts. He's a very successful NYC fashion photographer. The talk was simulcast to the DC campus as well, which was pretty cool. He spoke alot about art, attitude, and printing. He was very much about the "art" which was good to hear. It seems sometimes that photography is all about the web and sharing online, and not about the image in a single, well crafted print...very thought-provoking speaker.

Last night I was at CDIA helping with the filming of an interview with an alum of the web program. The camera used was a Canon 7D DSLR, sooped up with mike and moniter. The quality was great and I can see why that's the way things seem to be going.
I used the Nikon D3 (yeah, I'm a Nikon guy) to get these shots without using flash.

Sunday I was at The Barn at Gibbet Hill for Deb and Jamie's wedding. That is such a beautiful place for a wedding, hard to screw up. It's pretty close to me too which is nice.

Last Saturday was Alexis and Steve's wedding out in the Berkshires. The ceremony was at Johnson Chapel on the Amherst College campus. I haven't been out there for awhile, it really is a beautiful area and I think it came through in their wedding. People had traveled from all over to be at there, and it threatened to rain during the formals, but everything worked out great.

On another note, I had photographed Steve's sister's wedding at the Orleans Inn (see previous post) last year, and now she and her husband are wedding photographers in Houston TX! Funny how things go sometimes.....

On June 12th I had the pleasure of shooting Carrie and Shawn's wedding on the Cape. Shawn's family owns the Orleans Inn and I've photographed two of his sisters' weddings in the past couple of years. It's SO nice when you know the people your photographing and they have been very generous with giving my name to the brides that come to the Inn for their wedding celebrations. I'll be back at the Inn 4 more times this season! Oh, and the food there is terrific too....

Shot a book opening event at CDIA last night. The photographer is Ethan Daniels. His book "Under Cape Cod Water" is nature photography of below (and some above) the water. I like these images of him speaking in front of the slideshow. Kinda looks like the turtle is either listening to him, or about to eat him......
